VP was founded at the turn of the last century, as a High Street practice. VP developed an insurance practice and is now one of the leading insurance law firms in the country under the guidance of Mark Fowles, handling work on behalf of district and county councils across the South and West of England, and over 20 national insurers.

The Insurance department has a renowned expertise in the handling of claims against local and public authorities including public and employer liability risks. In addition, we have a strong and dedicated team acting on behalf of a large number of road traffic insurers.

VP is an approachable, committed, IT conscious practice, dedicated to the needs of the Insurance Industry; and has evolved into the major defendant practice in the South West of England. We have continued to grow, sharing the Insurance Industry’s commitment to the robust but economic disposal of claims, and endeavouring to ensure good channels of communication between your staff and ours at all times.

The department has in recent years offered Risk Management Consultancy services to clients, both in terms of our general liability work and specific risk areas such as Stress at Work, Leisure Claims, and Education etc. A team ethos exists within the department, and we look to encourage in our staff a combination of legal expertise, commercial awareness, and approachability.

Our dedication and commitment to the industry was recognised in our nomination by the Insurance Times as Insurance Law Firm of the Year 2007; and again most recently by the Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession 2008, where Veitch Penny and Mark Fowles, Head of the Insurance Department, was acknowledged as a leader in the field of Personal Injury.
